Much of Hisoka's personality is a result of his empathetic powers. Distant and sometimes cold, Hisoka has to keep a wide perimeter due to his ability to feel emotions to those he is close to. Combined with the physical and verbal abuse from his parents, he feels it's best to stay away. This can sometimes manifest in a rude personality, like that displayed toward Tzusuki. More often than not, he's polite but cold.

Because of this, he can often come across as the mature one in the relationship when compared to the goofy Tsuzuki. He focuses on finishing a mission and isn't often lured away by other topics.

Despite his desire for distance and lack of a bleeding heart, Hisoka isn't uncaring. He's closed himself off, but when he meets people on their missions, he isn't apathetic to their plights, and he actively tries to help them. Likewise, he grows to care for his partner, and Hisoka becomes willing to suffer in order to save him.

For much of the series, Hisoka focuses on getting stronger and taking his revenge against Muraki. He can make a dangerous decision if it means gaining more power or ending the evil doctor.

Because Hisoka died when he was only 16, his appearance is forever frozen in the form of a boy never able to become a man. Long, dark lashes frame large, green eyes. His hair is dirty blonde with strands long enough fall into his face.

His form is slender and short, and he admits that he's never been able to form muscle, even when he tried.
